2018 Shelter's Choice Awards & Adoptathon

September 4th, 2018 – The Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center invites ones and all to the 2018 Shelter's Choice Awards and Adoptathon to be hosted Saturday, September 15th from 11am to 3pm. Come see our all-star dogs walk the red carpet and receive dog bone awards for different categories that you, the public, get to vote on!

Dog and cat adoptions fees will be discounted in celebration of the event. Even if you are unable to adopt, come down for the show, take part in the raffles, and check out what our vendors have to offer.

Twenty-Two Beaches Closed to Bathing - Four beaches remain closed

September 10th, 2018  The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has closed 22 beaches to bathing due to the finding of bacteria at levels that exceed acceptable criteria. In addition, four beaches that had closed earlier this season remain closed. In total, 26 beaches are closed to bathing. Please see the below table for a list of affected beaches in and around our area.

Suffolk County Issues Advisory against Bathing at 62 Beaches Due to Heavy Rainfall

September 7th, 2018 – Due to the heavy rainfall that occurred last night, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services has issued an advisory against bathing at 62 beaches. The advisory is based on the potential that the presence of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards will impact these areas. The beaches covered by the advisory are located in areas that are heavily influenced by stormwater runoff from the surrounding watersheds and/or adjacent tributaries, and because of their location in an enclosed embayment, experience limited tidal flushing. Please see the below table for a list of affected beaches in and around our area.

Bay Shore Marina Without Power Wednesday September 5th

September 4th, 2018Attention Boaters: Please be advised that due to an unanticipated electrical failure, the Bay Shore marina will be without power from approximately 9am to 9pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

In order to restore power, a new transformer will be installed ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your cooperation while we work to reach a speedy resolution.

Byron Lake Pool, Roberto Clemente Pool, Ship Wreck Cove Spray Park Hours Extended Due to Heat Wave

August 28th, 2018 – Due to the high heat index for both today, Tuesday August 28th, and tomorrow, Wednesday August 29th, the Town of Islip has extended the hours of operation at Byron Lake Pool, Roberto Clemente Pool and Ship Wreck Cove Spray Park. All 3 water destinations will remain open until 6:45 pm.
