Outreach
The Brentwood and Central Islip outreach offices offer advocacy and referral services to assist Town of Islip residents to negotiate the legal, health care and social service systems. Services may include:

  1. Interpretation of current welfare laws and how these laws apply to individual situations. Staff may accompany clients to fair hearings.
  2. Clarification of the changes in the health care system including Medicaid and Medicare Part D. Staff will refer clients to the appropriate resources that will enable clients to make the best choices for themselves.
  3. Staff can also assist in the preparation of Medicaid re-certifications and applications as well as applications for food stamps, public hearings and HEAP.(Home Energy Assistance Program)

Special Events
The Human Development Division coordinates national observances for the Town, such as Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Student Achievement Awards, and Hispanic Heritage Month. For more information about these events, please contact the Division at (631) 224-5325.


FAMILY SELF SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM (FSS)
This program encourages low income families to achieve economic self sufficiency. Caseworkers assist individuals with setting and maintaining personal, family and career goals. The program is open to individuals who are currently receiving Section 8 rental assistance. All applicants for this service must apply through the Town of Islip Housing Authority.
